Imperfectionism Manifesto

Imperfectionism is an art movement founded by Alaïa Parhizi in 2014 which embraces the accidental nature of artistic creation and incorporates apparent mishaps into the art. Since its founding as a 21st century avant-garde art movement and creative philosophy, Imperfectionism has impacted art, music, fashion and other forms of creative expression. Rather than pioneering a specific artistic aesthetic or medium, Imperfectionism defines a method of self-knowing through the arts, where intuitive decision-making, raw expressive impulses and imaginative self-discovery are the foundational tools.

The Imperfectionists recognize the beauty in flaws and elevate it to be the sacred elements in their art. Instead of pursuing a certain outcome, the artists allow themselves to be surprised by their own creation, and satisfied with the outcome because it has surpassed what they could have planned for. This technique reflects the underlying philosophy that happenstances are a natural, persistent, and divine element in human existence, it is beyond the individual's influence, it happens to the person and is considered as luck or fate. Applied to the artistic process, the Imperfectionists take action to allow for probability to introduce divine intervention into their creation. Utmost emotional sincerity is reached while the artist finds delight by the touch of the unexpected in their finished work. This instinctive exploration of the creative mind allows for absolutely one-of-a-kind artworks in all forms and styles!

The Imperfectionists work with ease because they do not fear, they are liberated, focused and prolific. In the new millennium, where artificial intelligence and robotics can produce precise outcomes and flawless duplications in seconds, Imperfectionism frees the artist from the old paradigm of suffering, traditional limitations of craft and reward. It celebrates the human element in arts regardless of style, subject matter or medium.

Imperfectionism as an artistic movement is unique in that it consciously recognizes the full capacity of the human being through the lens of creative exploration, by connecting individuals to their sense of self identity which is fundamental in creating an innovative, progressive, art movement. The singularity and individualism characterized by Imperfectionism is mirrored in the artistic works created with the Imperfectionism method. When one utilizes Imperfectionism as the driving force behind their creative process, the outcome is inherently unique and can never be imitated or reproduced. Imperfectionism innately creates works of art that act as capsules or moments of human consciousness where judgment, premeditation and the curation of intention do not exist.

Since there has not been a single unifying art movement or group of artists that could collectively assemble for over 20 years now, Alaïa has decided to write this manifesto and formally invite all artists to decide if they have ever used the Imperfectionism method or are interested in exploring it! This will create a conversation between artists, supporting the first free artist community globally, since society now enables this global communication through the Internet, we have the opportunity to stand together as artists and as Imperfectionists! And with that comes the chance to protect the creatives coming in the future from hyper-materialism, mob-mentality and ambiguous self worth, as well as to end the mindstate of competition and give each other a hand to articulate and emphasize what our value and strength is in society, and to put the art into the hands of artists again, by giving a platform to articulate demands and guidance!

The art this method creates is highly valuable because it is impossible to replicate: the divine Imperfection embodies scarcity! The Imperfectionist technique creates art directly from the unique circumstances every artist is in. And Imperfectionist works are the ultimate collectors’ item because one is investing in the inherent beauty of life and into the people expressing the distinctiveness of their experience. Imperfect artists are people striving to propel their vision and life directly into their art! This is the inevitable direction Art is going! We need to formally come together and propel each other to make history and the greatest art pieces that have yet to exist!
